Your Complete ESP Setup Guide:
3-step setup complete video walkthroughs ~20 minutes total
Step 1: ~4 min
What you'll learn
Hi there, welcome back. We're now going to go through the full process of uploading your leads and customers into Brevo ESP. Then we're going to be creating your first email, including showing you how to add all of the merge tags properly so it functions with Feels Personal. And finally, we're actually going to send emails out to two different leads from the list we're going to be uploading.
The first one will be me. Here's all the information we're going to be adding in to Brevo as different merge tags. We're going to have company name, role. We're going to have birthdays. We're going to have prefixes. We're going to have location data, and we're going to have names as well. And the other example we'll be using is Eugene Schwartz as well.
So inside of Brevo, the first thing we have to do is go into the CRM and add this spreadsheet as our list. So we're going to go Import Contacts. We're going to be doing it as a file. And this is where we will have to, in a moment, do all of the mapping. So we'll click Next, and then down below, it's going to give us options and what it thinks it should be mapping so far. It gets a lot of it right. And now we're going to have to do any of the fields that don't map properly from your data.
The one thing we always have to remember is that they must be saved as text. So for example, here we have birthday. We've got to change that to text. We can name it anything we want as long as it's clear and easy for us to find later in the merge tags when we're creating an email. So this one, birth month, we're changing to text, and birth year, we're changing to text as well.
And then below, we've got company name - it's already text. So for company role, we're going to change the name to company role, and we're going to save it as a text attribute as well.
And now we can see that it doesn't assign anything to first name here. So we have to select Do Not Import. When we come down to first name, we're going to import it as first name. For all of these, we have to click Create and confirm them, and that'll be saved for us. As we see, we'll do that for all of them.
And now purple across the board means they've all been mapped properly. Confirm Mapping. We're going to create a list - Feels Personal Test. And we're going to confirm. Agree. And there you have it - our list is created and we have mapped our variables.
So now we're going to go on to the second video, where we're actually going to build and create our first email with all of the merge tags. I'll see you in that video.
Step 2: ~6 min
What you'll learn
Hi, this is video 2 for Brevo, where we're actually going to build our first email campaign and insert all of the merge tags, so you can see how it plays nicely with Feels Personal.
So for this we have to go to Marketing and Create a Campaign. We're going to create an email campaign. It'll be a regular one. We'll call this "Brevo test for Feels Personal". We're creating the campaign.
We're going to add the list we just uploaded. So we're coming down here, selecting our list - Feels Personal Test, two recipients. That's exactly right. Subject line, what we'll send to our email address, is "Brevo test for Feels Personal". We're going to save that, and now we're going to start designing.
From here we're going to just choose a basic template. We'll choose this first template here. I'm going to delete a couple of these sections that are unnecessary, and this is where we will start creating the email. So "Brevo example email for Feels Personal". Then we're going to come in here and put "This is the first example", and then we're going to have a "Second impressive example". Just so I can show you the different ways you can actually format the links that are seen by your leads or your customers in two different styles, to build curiosity and get more click-through rates.
So from here we're going to quickly jump into the Feels Personal product itself, and you're going to go to Build My URL. For this purpose I'm going to select a demo page that I've already set up in advance with all the different variable data ready to be replaced with our live data.
So we're going to pick the personal data - first name, last name, location data, everything from the CSV file you saw earlier. Company and role, the prefix, and of course all the birthday data as well that we've set up with all the merge tags. And then Feels Personal, once you've done that, is going to give you a final URL with the exact structure that you should be using when you paste it into the Brevo campaign.
So we're going to copy that, go back to Brevo. I'm going to paste it here just so we've got something to follow the example of, and now we're actually going to build this. You can see that Brevo has actually automatically filled it in, but just to be sure I want to go through creating an entire URL link here for you, so you can see where the variable data lives in Brevo and see how to create it yourself.
So we've got /demo. Now we have to copy the exact style of this link above. So we have /c/, and we're going to look for country and hyphen city. So we're going to go to the variable tags up here, and we're going to look for country. Now we'll add a slash. Now we're going to come up here and find city, and we're going to do this for the entire URL. So now we have country/city.
Now we have /CR/. Sorry, forward slash /CR/. Now we're looking for company hyphen role. So we go here, find company name - is how we saved it - hyphen company role.
Now we have /PL/. So /PL/, now we're looking for prefix.
Now we want /BD/. So /BD/. Now we're looking for birthday, birth month, birth year. So I'm going to show you something a little bit interesting - we can go birthday. Now instead of a hyphen, we're going to put an underscore. This is just to show you that both underscores and hyphens between the variables work in Feels Personal, so it doesn't matter. So we've got the underscore. Now we've got a hyphen just to show you. Now we're looking for birth year. So we've got that.
Now we go /P/ first name, last name. So /P/ - first name, hyphen, last name.
Now if you're building these URLs yourself, it's always best practice to put a trailing forward slash / at the end of the URL. Feels Personal does this automatically in the Build My URL tab. It doesn't matter for most ESPs, but it is best practice just to make sure there's never any problem.
So now that we've built this entire link, Brevo is a little bit annoying when it comes to adding merge tags to the URLs themselves that you embed as links. So we're going to copy this just so we can keep a track of it, and I'm going to paste it into a text document, just so we can see the structure of the URL itself.
Now what we have to do is copy the very first part of the URL of the page that we're going to be sending your users to. So we're going to copy all of that, and I promise you only ever have to do this once - after this it won't be a problem. We're going to then highlight the entire link, we're going to go Add Link, we're going to paste it, and now what we're going to have to do is build the entire link again with the actual merge tags inside of this link here.
So at /demo, we're going to go /c/, and then we can see that we're looking for a country hyphen city. So we're going to go through the entire process again - country, and you can see that it's now actually giving the full merge tags that you would be using normally. So country/city. And as I said, you'll only ever have to do this once - I'll show you why in a moment.
So country/city. Now we're looking for /CR/ company name, company role. So at the very end, /CR/, now we're looking for company name, company role - company name-company role.
And now we're looking for /PL/ prefix. So come to the very end again, /PL/. Yeah, prefix.
Now we're looking for /BD/, then birthday, birth month, birth year. So go to the very end. Forward slash /BD/, birthday. This time we'll put an underscore _ to show you it still works. Birthday, birth month, do another underscore _, birth year. Now the final part after that is /P/ first name, last name, and then a trailing forward slash /. So go to the very end again, /P/, we're looking for first_name, last_name. First name - last name, and end it with a forward slash.
Now what I'd recommend doing is Ctrl+A, copy that entire link so you've saved the actual merge tag variables (I'll show you why in a second), and paste that into your document. I'm going to save that, and now this link is working. So we can insert it, and now this link has all of the personalization data behind it.
So what we can do is now come to /P/ first name, last name, and delete all this after demo - because this is what's being displayed in the email itself. So it's going to display first name and last name after the /demo page, which is the curiosity provoker. I'm just going to delete this one up here, we no longer need the structure.
So we have that link. And now, why I wanted to show you the second impressive example is that we can paste the entire URL again - we give it a second, and Brevo populates it. So it's actually very useful - you can go in and create your merge tag exactly as it needs to be one time.
So now we're going to come from first name and go all the way back to the base URL of your domain. So now it looks like you have literally built first name, last name in the email that they receive - they're going to look like they've received a page built just for their name right after the base URL. So you can format this link any way you want to make it curiosity-invoking.
Let's see. So now we're going to finish this, and I am going to click Save and Quit. And now we're going to stop the video here. In the next video, I'm going to actually send this email campaign, and we're going to see how it looks live in two different inboxes of customers or leads that you would be sending it to as well. I'll see you in a moment.
Step 3: ~11 min
What you'll learn
Bonus
Once your Brevo merge tags are saved inside Feels Personal, every future campaign's personalized URL is generated in a single click - no re-mapping, no re-checking syntax.
Okay, welcome back to the third video for Brevo. In this one we're actually going to send the email campaign that we just created with all the merge tags. And I'm going to show you exactly how the live emails look in the two different inboxes, and how it's going to look in both your customers' and leads' inboxes as well when you do this.
So we're going to schedule the email, and we're going to send it right now. And what I'm going to do is pause this very quickly and be back once Brevo has actually sent the emails out live.
Okay, we're back, and as you can see, Brevo has sent the campaign. So let's go and look at the two inboxes to show you what the results look like live.
So we have the Brevo test for Feels Personal. And just as a reminder, I'll show you quickly - it has personalized the merge tags. So it looks like I've received a page built just for me in both situations. To show you the data, this email is for Zachery Vellis of Australia, Sydney. We have the birthday 29th of February, 1990. And I am a marketer who works with Google. So let's click the link and see the live page.
This is exactly what your customers and leads would be seeing as well. And we can see it has personalized all the variables - first name, prefix, last name, location data, a marketer who works for Google. We have the incredible leap year birthday of 29th of February, 1990. So it's worked perfectly for that link. And I'll now just click the other link to show you it working there as well.
So let's go to the other link. We click that, open it up - and it's working perfectly for both. It's populated the variable data everywhere. So it has successfully sent this campaign to one email address.
Let's go to the other one here. We have this one for Eugene Schwartz. As a reminder, this data is going to be USA, Seattle, 18th of March, 1927. And he happens to be a copywriter working for Anthropic. So let's check out the link here. We click that, open it up, and it's been populated perfectly.
So now Eugene - or Mr. Schwartz - with his location data of Seattle, USA, is now looking at a personalized sales page or landing page or any page of the marketing funnel for a copywriter working at Anthropic, who was born on the 18th of March, 1927. So now just to confirm, I'll close that page down, and we'll look at the second link just so you can be sure it's worked here as well. And there you go. Now it's worked perfectly for Brevo as well.
So imagine the power you can use for your own list of customers and leads. Now what I'm going to do is show you why we copied all of this data down from the URL we created inside of Brevo. It was a pain in the ass once, but this is why you'll never have to do it again.
So if you go to the Feels Personal product itself, and this time, instead of the Build My URL tab, we're going to go to ESP Variables. You're going to come here, and you're going to select Brevo. And then you're going to save it. Now, most of the ESPs that we've pre-filled out here in Feels Personal only have the first couple of variables, because they're the ones that are predictable and saved. So it has first name, last name.
So what we're going to do now is grab the details that we saved before - this is why we put it into a text document. So we're going to grab the entire variable for contact country, we're going to put it in, we're going to Update - this will save. I'll do the same for city, grab the entire thing, bring it over and save it. Now I won't bore you by having to watch me fill out all these. I'll be back in a moment when they're all filled out.
Okay, we're back, and I filled out all of the different merge tags except for nickname. We included this in the Excel sheet as a column header, but we didn't add any information just to show you that you can literally put any piece of variable data that you'd like into your Excel sheets about your leads or customers, and upload it, and Feels Personal is going to work nicely with every single thing.
So now, the reason we've added these and saved them all here is because now when you go to Build My URL anytime in the future, we can pick the page that you're going to send your customers or leads to, and we'll add all of the data again - the personalization, the location, the company role and name, their prefix, and their birthday data. All that is saved.
And this time, instead of a general format, Feels Personal is giving you the exact URL that you can use with all of the merge tags as specifically created for Brevo. So instead of having to play around in the URL link that is sitting behind the display link in the email, you'd now simply be able to copy this, go over, and paste it straight in, and never have to play around typing anything in ever again.
So one time a little bit annoying, but once they're saved inside Feels Personal, your entire ESP is set up, automated, and ready to go. So I hope that has proved helpful. You are now ready to go away, and inside of Brevo, start sending completely personalized email campaigns to all of your leads and customers for any marketing page across your entire funnel.
I can't wait to hear about your stories of success - huge increases in conversion rates and click-through rates that are going to be yours in a very short time from here. Thank you very much.
